Baxi Combi Boiler Guide

Baxi boiler on green wall

Do you need a Baxi boiler combi guide to get through the day?

Found yourself in a situation where your boiler has conked out on you and you now have the daunting task of deciding on your next boiler? If Baxi has been a potential option of boiler brand to choose from, then you’re in the right place. This blog will help you choose the best Baxi combi boiler option for your home.

Before choosing your next new Baxi boiler, it is important to understand what boiler type you currently have and what boiler you need, as well as how combi boilers work

A combination or ‘combi boiler’ as it’s known to many of us, is a very popular choice when it comes to buying a new or replacement boiler for your home. Due to its compact and lightweight size, it can be installed neatly into your kitchen cupboard, out of sight, out of mind.

Because combi boilers don’t have a hot water tank or a cold water tank, they are generally the preferred choice for providing heat and hot water in the U.K.

To put it very simply, with a combi boiler, water is supplied directly from the mains, a gas burner is ignited when the tap is turned on, the heat exchanger transfers the energy to the water which heats it up, ready for you to use.

Combi boilers are the best boilers for smaller homes with limited space and for those who need hot water and central heating on demand. Modern boilers are designed with a built-in pre-heat system, which helps to deliver hot water even more quickly. This is a small reservoir of water that is kept at a certain temperature, meaning you will have instant hot water as soon as you turn the tap on.

If the temperature falls below a set point, a combi boiler’s room thermostat will send a signal to the boiler to fire up so that heat can be pumped into the central heating system. Once the optimum temperature, that you have set, is reached again, the boiler will then modulate (posh word for turn itself down). This helps to maintain the correct temperature and also helps you save energy.

It’s worth mentioning here that if you take the WarmZilla survey, we’ll automatically recommend the most suitable boilers for you by asking a few simple questions about your home. You don’t need to worry about what kW boiler you need as we’ll suggest the right boiler for your home.

Although, if you wanted to compare your current heating system to other boiler brands and models, you could use our Boiler Comparison tool. This tool allows you to compare up to three boilers models or brands at one time, to help you find the perfect new boiler for your home.

The History Behind Baxi

Richard Baxendale, the iron founder of Baxendale Company, began his journey in 1866, in Preston in Lancashire.

Baxi Heating is a part of BDR Thermea Group, which was founded in 2009. Baxi Heating has some of the best-known and trusted heating and hot water brands for residential and commercial heating customers in the UK. Other brands that are a part of Baxi Heating are Main Heating and Potterton Commercial. Potterton Commercial is the oldest of the brands and its history can be traced back as far as 1850.

Thomas Potterton started Potterton Commercial in Balham, London, and completed the first-ever gas boiler installation back in 1902. Since then, the brand has become a prestigious name in the industry and, over 100 years later, remains at the forefront of commercial boiler production and development.

Remembering that both Potterton and Main boilers are now a part of Baxi Heating, let’s look at what customers have to say about each boiler brand.

In the Which? annual survey, all four boiler brands were ranked on their reliability, their overall customer satisfaction score, and engineer recommendation scores.

During the survey, over 7,500 customers were asked about the boiler brand they own, how satisfied they are with them, and whether their boiler has suffered any faults or breakdowns.

Here were the survey results:

Brand BaxiPottertonMain
Overall Brand Score76%68%57%
Reliability5 stars4 stars4 stars
Customer Score4 stars3 stars2 stars
Engineer Recommendation4 stars4 stars4 stars

We can see from the Which? Best boiler Brand Survey 2021, that Baxi seems to be a very reliable and loved boiler brand. So loved, that it placed 3rd of 16 boiler brands that were ranked, coming just behind well-known, robust brands such as Worcester Bosch and Viessmann.

Now that we have looked at what customers have had to say about Baxi as a brand, and the quality of their boilers, let’s have a look at the combi boiler models available to purchase from Baxi. Unfortunately, WarmZilla does not currently sell Baxi boilers, however, we do sell alternative combi boilers, from budget-friendly boiler brands like Ideal Boilers and Vokera Boilers to more mid-range to high-end combi boiler brands such as Worcester Bosch BoilersVaillant Boilers and Viessmann Boilers
