What are the best Viessmann boilers in 2023? We will answer this by referring to the performance, brand and descriptions of Viessman.
The Viessmann Vitodens 100-W range has seen a huge increase in popularity since being awarded the Which? Best Buy status in 2017. Since the re-launch of the newer, more modern and tech-friendly model was released in 2021, the Viessmann Vitodens 100-W has become a renowned favourite in many households.
Viessmann currently only has one regular, heat only boiler model, which, you guessed it, happens to be the Vitodens 100-W 😉. Nevertheless, this regular boiler is so awesome, that we feel like it deserves a whole blog of its own.
Throughout this blog, we will touch base on Viessmann as a company, its history and its customer reviews. We will then discuss all the great features that come with the Viessmann Vitodens 100-W Heat Only boiler as well as the price for each output model available in the range.
Before we get into the good stuff, here’s a summary of how a regular boiler works for those that may be unsure what type of boiler they have.
Regular boiler systems, also known as conventional, traditional, heat only or open vent boilers, are the most difficult to install or replace. A regular boiler includes both a hot and cold water storage tank, the boiler itself and an expansion cistern located next to the cold water tank.
Although a regular boiler can provide a large volume of hot water for multiple bathrooms in your home, this type of boiler system does take up quite a bit of space in a home. For those with smaller homes and limited space, we recommended looking into combi boilers instead.
Regular boilers are becoming less and less common as they are less efficient than newer combi and system boilers. They also require more space as mentioned above, as more parts, which means that potentially more could go wrong with your boiler.
On the other hand, regular (conventional) boilers are ideal for anyone in an area with low water pressure.
If you would like more information on how a regular boiler works, don’t panic, we have this covered in another blog.
Whether you have a regular boiler or have discovered that you have a combi boiler or system boiler in your home, if you would like more information about your system works, then we have the following blogs that explain this in-depth:
Now we’ve covered that part, we hope you’ve got your cuppa to hand, let’s get into the good stuff.
Viessmann History
The Viessmann Group is a German manufacturer of heating, industrial, and refrigeration systems headquartered in Allendorf, Germany.
It all started in 1928 when Johann Viessman laid down the foundations for heating solutions after being asked by a neighbour if he would build a boiler for his greenhouse. At that time, boilers were generally made from cast iron and reached operating temperature very slowly, however, for his neighbour, Johann developed and built a new model of boiler, made with steel.
Later, in 1947, Dr Hans Viessmann, the son of Johann took over his father’s company that had 35 employees at the time and grew the company to over 100 employees. By 1957 Viessmann Group grew to 350 employees and were producing over 5000 boilers a year.
By 1976, Viessmann started to produce solar panels, and in 1978 launched heat pumps in the world of heating solutions. And by 1988, Viessmann had sold his one-millionth Vitola boiler. What a success!
In 2017, the fourth generation of the Viessmann family, Maximilian Viessmann took on the role of Co-CEO alongside Joachim Janssen, and both strive to continue to create incredible products.

Viessmann Reviews
WarmZilla understands how important it is to ensure that you are 100% happy with your choice of boiler before investing in it, as a boiler is not cheap and will need to last you at least 10-years (if maintained properly).
For this reason, let’s have a look at what Viessmann’s customers have to say about their Viessmann boiler.
When looking at Viessmann’s Trustpilot ratings, we can instantly see that customers love their boilers and are more than satisfied. This is supported with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 and over 3k reviews.
Here are some of the lovely words Viessmann’s customers had to say about their boiler: “Quick, efficient and since installation (mid last year) it has performed very well indeed.”
Another customer said, “Really pleased with new boiler, hot water straight away. House lovely and warm”.
In the 2021 Which? Best Boiler Brand Survey where over 8,000 customers and 150 Which? Trusted Traders were asked to score Viessmann on their reliability, how likely they are to recommend their Viessmann boilers to friends and family, the build quality of their Viessmann boiler, the ease of servicing and availability of spares and parts.
Viessmann scored an overall 81% brand score. Customers and tradesmen scored an amazing 5 out of 5 stars for reliability and customer score, and 4 out of 5 stars for their overall engineer recommendation score, which supports the fact that Viessmann is a highly reliable and efficient boiler brand.
Viessmann Vitodens 100-W Regular Boiler Range

The Viessmann Vitodens 100-W regular boiler is available in 13kW, 16kW, 19kW, 26kW and 35kW boiler model, making it a boiler model that can provide hot water and central heating to homes of all different sizes.
Viessmann state that the Vitodens 100-W range is compact enough to fit in a standard kitchen cupboard, however, it is important to note that a regular boiler, as mentioned above, is installed alongside an additional hot water cylinder, which is typically installed inside an airing cupboard or similar size space in your home, as well as an extra tank that is located in the attic of your home.
For this reason, as we’ve said before, we don’t recommend regular boilers for smaller homes with limited space.
When it comes to the Viessmann Vitodens range, reliability and efficiency are two of their top qualities. This is thanks to their new MatriX-Plus burner and new Lambda Pro automatic combustion controls. Both of these new, modern technologies ensure low fuel consumption with low NOx and CO2 emissions. Viessmann has also increased the modulation range of the new Vitodens 100-W, which now modulate at 1:10.
Viessmann, unlike other boiler manufacturers, uses a stainless steel heat exchanger, called the Inox-Radial, in their boilers, rather than ones that are made from aluminium. These heat exchangers are made in house by Viessmann with the highest grade materials which help to increase the efficiency, reliability, durability and corrosion resistance of the exchanger. The Inox-Radial heat exchangers have a 10-year warranty, so you won’t have to worry about replacing them for a while.
Viessmann boiler parts and kits are now available across the UK, meaning that if there is an issue with your Viessmann boiler, then getting a replacement part shouldn’t be an issue.
