Are you in the market for a Glow Worm boiler and need to review the brand and get a price?

If you need information about Glow Worm boilers, Glow Worm boiler prices, and Glow Worm boiler reviews, then you’ve come to the right place. If you’re looking for info on little bugs that light up in the dark, then we’re sorry, but it’s not our speciality.

Glow Worm have been going for over 80 years, which is a long time for any business, the little bugs they take their name from only live for 5 days, so they’re doing better than their namesake.

Glow-worm offers a range of combi, system, and regular boilers. If you aren’t sure what boiler type you have, check out our blog, it’s important to know your boiler type before getting any boiler quotes.

Who are Glow Worm Boilers

Glow Worm boilers are a boiler manufacturing company based in Derbyshire. They manufacture boilers, heat pumps, and heating controls. As they are manufactured in the UK, there is less chance of you struggling to get parts (which can happen with some European manufacturers).

In 2001 Glow-worm was acquired by the Vaillant Group, Europe’s second-largest heating company.

Vaillant employs over 12,000 people across Europe and China, providing innovative heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning technologies to hundreds and thousands of homes all over the world.

Vaillant is one of the ‘big four’ in boiler manufacturing along with Worcester Bosch, Ideal, and Baxi. As such, the quality of Glow Worm boilers was strengthened when they were acquired by Vaillant.

Glow Worm Boiler Reviews

Glow Worm boilers are generally well thought of in the boiler industry. They are solid, dependable boilers that lack the features of the more advanced boilers such as the Worcester Bosch Life 8000.

When we take a look at the Which? Review score for Glow Worm boilers, it comes with a pretty decent 71% score. For a mid-range boiler that’s pretty high. Ideal boilers scored 74% in their Which? Brand score and Ideal would be considered the main competitors in the market for the mid-range crown.

Which? Best Boiler Brand SurveyRating
Brand Reliability Rating5 star
Brand Customer Score Rating 4 star
Engineer Recommendation Rating 3 star

The brand score is made up of brand reliability and brand customer satisfaction (assessed by an annual customer survey) and ratings from heating engineers (assessed by an annual engineers survey of Which? Trusted Traders).

Which? Have this to say “Glow-worm boilers are a respectable, mid-range option and very reliable. They’re easy to service and parts are easy to source, if a little expensive. Engineers aren’t quick to recommend the brand, but it achieves a good customer score.”

Glow Worm has similarly positive feedback from their customers on Trustpilot, with a decent 4.7 average review score based on well over 5,000 reviews.

Glow Worm Boiler Servicing

Glow-worm, similarly to other boiler manufacturers, request that you get your boiler serviced annually. This not only keeps your warranty valid but also keeps yourself and others in your home safe.

A typical boiler service takes around 1 hour to complete. During this time your engineer will identify any defects from the inspection.

The lifespan of your boiler depends on how well you maintain it. Having your boiler annually serviced will improve its efficiency and extend its lifespan. It will also minimise the risk of nasty repair bills.

You can book your annual boiler service through Glow-worm for as little as £99.

So, what does a typical boiler service look like? Your standard boiler service will include:

  • A full inspection of your boiler’s components
  • An inspection of the main injector, spark probe, burner, heat exchanger, electrical connections and controls
  • Your Gas Safe engineer will check your boiler seals, pipework, and combustion releases to ensure they are functioning correctly and are at the correct pressure
  • Replacement of any damaged or worn parts
  • Clean the necessary components to ensure your boiler is performing as efficiently as possible

Glow Worm Boiler Repairs

As a mid-range boiler, Glow Worms are fairly reliable boilers. Heating engineers rate the build quality of Glow Worms as average but they are easy to service and source parts for.

If you encounter an issue with your Glow Worm boiler, the first step will be to diagnose the Glow Worm fault code that will flash up on your LCD screen. We’ve already compiled all Glow Worm fault codes for you, so you can just search our fault code page for your error and get the description of what is causing the issue.

Then you just need to get your Glow Worm boiler fixed. If you get your boiler fixed with Glow Worm, they charge a fixed price repair fee of £285, which is a great deal if you need a new heat exchanger but most other things will cost less than £285 and you’d be better off going with a local heating engineer to repair the issue for you.

If you have your Glow Worm boiler serviced annually, then it will last longer. Many manufacturers make an annual service a part of the warranty, so the warranty becomes void on your boiler if you don’t get it serviced every year. A Gas Safe engineer will charge between £60 – £120 depending on your location.

Do WarmZilla Recommend Glow Worm Boilers?

Glow-worm offers mid-range boilers with average build quality. The problem with Glow-worm is that if you’re looking for a mid-range boiler, there are better ones out there. WarmZilla recommends Ideal boilers if you’re looking for a reliable mid-range boiler. Our Ideal boilers come with a massive 8-year guarantee and start from just £1549 for the Ideal Logic range, which is a great price for a mid-range boiler with the reputation and aftercare Ideal offer.

You can also take the WarmZilla survey, by answering a few simple questions about your home we will be able to recommend suitable boilers for your heating and hot water requirements. You can get a quote on a new boiler in just a few minutes without adding any personal details.
