How To Reset A Ferroli Boiler

If your Ferroli boiler suddenly shuts down or shows an error code, there’s no need to panic. It’s not broken, it’s just doing its job.

Modern Ferroli boilers have built-in safety systems that automatically shut the boiler down (known as a lockout) when something isn’t quite right.

Think of it as the boiler saying: “Something’s off. Sort me out before I carry on.”

So, why is your Ferroli boiler activating its lockout mode?

Why Do Ferroli Boilers Go Into Lockout?

Ferroli boilers lock out to protect themselves from damage or unsafe conditions. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • Low boiler pressure
  • Ignition failure or no gas supply
  • Overheating due to poor circulation
  • Electrical or power supply interruptions

Before doing anything else, look at your boiler’s display screen. Your Ferroli boilers display fault/error codes that provide clues to the issue.

There are a few standard error codes that your Ferroli will show you, as follows:

Error CodeMeaning / What You Can Try
A01Ignition failure – Check the gas supply, reset the boiler.
A02Flame detected, but no demand – It could be a sensor error. Best to reset.
A41 / F37Low water pressure – Re-pressurise using the filling loop.
A03Overheating – Switch off and allow boiler to cool.
A34Circulation issue – Bleed radiators or check the pump.
F05Fan or flue problem – Call an engineer. Don’t reset your boiler repeatedly.

These might vary depending on your model (such as the Ferroli Modena, Bluehelix, or Domicompact).

If you’ve misplaced your manual, don’t worry. You can easily download one from the Ferroli UK website.

Before resetting your Ferroli boiler, it’s best to perform a quick check.

Before You Reset, Do These Quick Checks

While it’s tempting to dive straight for the reset button, taking two minutes to check the basics might save you the hassle altogether.

Gas Supply

If you’re seeing an ignition fault, such as A01, first ensure there’s gas.

Try lighting another gas appliance, such as your hob. If that doesn’t work either, the problem isn’t your boiler. Unfortunately, it’s most likely a supply issue.

Call your gas provider to confirm your suspension.

Water Pressure

Ferroli boilers typically operate between 1.0 and 1.5 bar when cold.

It’s best to look at the pressure gauge on the front to confirm your boiler’s pressure. If it’s low, use the filling loop to top it up until the level is in the green.

Or if it’s too high, bleed a radiator to release pressure.

Power Supply

It sounds obvious, but check if your boiler is actually getting electricity.

Ferroli boilers are often wired into a fused spur (a small white switch box near the unit). Make sure it’s on.

If it is, check your fuse box for a tripped breaker and reset it.

If power, gas, and pressure are all fine, then it’s safe to try a reset.

As mentioned earlier, error codes can vary widely; the same applies to resetting your Ferroli boilers.

How to Reset a Ferroli Boiler

The exact method depends on your model, but all Ferroli boilers are pretty straightforward to reset.

1. Reset Button Method (Most Common)

The first step is to look for the small reset button on the front control panel.

When you’ve located it, press and hold it for 3 to 5 seconds. You might hear a click, see the screen change, or the boiler attempt to restart.

If the fault has been fixed, your boiler should return to action shortly.

2. Reset Using the Control Dial (Some Models)

On specific models, such as the Ferroli Modena or Optimax, the reset function is integrated into the control dial.

Turn the dial to the reset symbol (a curved arrow or “R”). Hold the dial in place for a few seconds before releasing.

The boiler will then restart its ignition cycle.

3. Digital Display Reset (Newer Ferroli Models)

Press the “Menu” or “Reset” button on the digital panel.

Use the arrow buttons to select “Reset”, then confirm.

The screen may show a countdown or flashing symbol while it restarts.

It’s always in your best interest to review your boiler’s manual on how to reset it.

Now, when is it best to reset your Ferroli boiler?

When to Reset (and When to Step Away)

As you’d assume, there are some generalised rules to follow.

Reset only if the fault looks minor and it hasn’t happened before.

Before you reset, make sure it is:

  • A once-off issue (like after a power cut).
  • You’ve topped up the low pressure, and everything seems normal.
  • The boiler isn’t making strange noises.

You shouldn’t reset when:

  • The same fault code keeps flashing back.
  • You hear banging, whistling, or gurgling.
  • The boiler overheats or shuts down again quickly.
  • You’re not sure what the error means.

However, if you’re in doubt, don’t force it! Repeated resets can cause more harm than good.

When all options have been exhausted, it’s time to call in Gas Safe registered engineers.

Call in the Experts

If your Ferroli boiler still refuses to cooperate after a reset, it’s time to call a professional.

Call a Gas Safe registered engineer and give them the error code you wrote down. That’ll help them conduct some research and, in turn, fix the problem more quickly.

WarmZilla can connect you with trusted local engineers who specialise in Ferroli boilers.

They can often get someone out within 48 hours, meaning you’re not left in the cold.
