Ohme App Smart features
Select your tariff
Once you’ve selected the electricity tariff you’re on, the app knows what the prices are and when the cheapest rates are available.
The app will then control the charging time to help save you money on car charging.
Create your schedule
This feature allows you to plan your charging around your off-peak electricity usage.
Lock your charger
Creating a ‘lock schedule’ gives your peace of mind, so you won’t have to worry about passersby using your charger when you’re not home.
Set a price cap
Setting a price cap will ensure your electric car only starts charging once the price drops below a certain rate.
Keep an eye on your charging costs
The app lets you see your charging history. It displays the charging time, energy consumed and estimated cost.
Green charging
You can set the app to optimise your green charging – whereby it charges your electric car when there is more renewable energy in the grid to reduce your carbon footprint.
Ohme Warranty
The Ohme Home Charger is protected by a manufacturer’s warranty for 36 months from the date of purchase or delivery, whichever is later.
The warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship under normal use. During the warranty period, Ohme will refund, repair or replace, at its discretion, at no charge, products or parts of the product which prove defective because of improper materials or the workmanship under normal use and maintenance.
Ohme will either repair the product using new or refurbished replacement parts or replace the product with new.
A replacement product assumes the remaining warranty period of the original product or for 180 days from the date of the replacement or repair, whichever is longer.
The warranty does not cover any issues that are caused by conditions, malfunctions, or damage not resulting from defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover damage or malfunction directly or indirectly caused by normal wear and tear, abuse, misuse, negligence, accident, lack of or improper use.
When used with a dynamic time-of-use tariff, savings of £300 per year are readily achievable.
The Ohme cable can charge up to 7kW (up to 2.4kW for the 3-pin cable variant), which is about 25 miles worth of travel per hour. Ohme will optimise your charge according to your personal charging preferences, finding the best time to charge within your window.
If your plans change, the app allows you to bypass all charge schedules and simply charge as quickly as possible. The next time you plug in, Ohme will revert to your charging schedules and apply all your preferences.
The Charge Schedules are your default charging preferences, for example, “charge to 80% by 7am on weekdays”. When you plug in your car, Ohme will choose the schedule that will be active next and turn it into a charging profile for the current charge. For example, if you plug in your car on a Tuesday evening at 7pm, then using the above Charge Schedule Ohme will finish charging by Wednesday morning at 7am. Charge Schedules allow you to simply plug in and charge your car according to your preferences by the required end time without the need to do anything further. You can always change the settings of an active charge session without affecting your default Charge Schedules.
There are a number of ways that you can lower the energy cost of running your EV:
- Consider selecting a tariff that offers cheaper night-time rates. The Ohme charger works brilliantly with Octopus Agile and Go tariffs.
- Make sure you have “save money” activated in the settings (it is enabled by default).
- Give Ohme as much time as you can. The more time Ohme has to charge your car, the more likely it will be able to choose an optimal time.
- It is often cheaper to charge your car a little every day (as Ohme can put all the charging into the cheapest period) rather than, for example, a weekly big charge.
*Average boiler prices were taken from an online heating supplier on 5/5/22. Prices are for the charging unit alone and may be subject to change.
