Which Vaillant boiler is best?

Vaillant boiler

Which Vaillant boiler is best for my home? Good question. Vaillant are a great boiler brand and offer reliable boilers at a reasonable price. With an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from over 18.8k reviews, you know you are dealing with a good company that cares about its customers.

If you’ve decided you want a Vaillant boiler for your home, the next question will be, ‘which is the best Vaillant boiler for my home (and wallet)?’.

To answer this question, you will need to know whether you have a combi, system, or regular boiler. If you aren’t sure what boiler type you have, don’t worry, we’ve covered it in another blog. If one boiler blog per day is your limit, then we can break it down quickly for you below:

  • Combi boilers don’t have any tanks, they heat water from the mains water supply
  • System boilers have a hot water storage tank, usually in an airing cupboard
  • Regular boilers have a hot water tank and a cold water storage tank (usually in the attic)

Combi boilers tend to be the best option for most UK homes as they don’t need storage tanks and offer heating and hot water on demand.

System boilers are usually found in households with more than one bathroom in use at the same time (high hot water demand).

Regular boilers are useful for homes with low water pressure as they utilise a ‘gravity fed’ system but due to the tanks involved, most homes switch to a combi boiler when replacing a regular boiler.

Now that we’ve done our homework and figured out which Vaillant boiler type we need, now we can look at which Vaillant boiler model would be best suited to your home.

It’s worth mentioning here that if you take the WarmZilla survey, we’ll automatically recommend the most suitable boilers for you by asking a few simple questions about your home. You don’t need to worry about what kW boiler you need as we’ll suggest the right boilers for your home. Although, if you wanted to compare your current heating system to other boiler brands and models, you could use our Boiler Comparison tool. This tool allows you to compare up to three boilers models or brands at one time, to help you find the perfect new boiler for your home.

Vaillant company history

Vaillant was formed way back in 1874 by Johann Vaillant in Remscheid, Germany. Johann Vaillant, the tenth child in his family, founded his own workshop as a copper beater and pump maker.

Many inventions have been credited to Vaillant over the years including modern-day central heating in 1924. Previously each room was heated individually by stoves or fireplaces until Vaillant introduced the central heating boiler that could heat multiple radiators simultaneously – revolutionising home heating.

The Vaillant boiler range has been given a Which? Best Buy award and they have also been awarded a Quiet Mark Accreditation, from the Noise Abatement Society for their quiet running boilers.

Vaillant boilers on finance

Boiler finance is the most popular payment option – you can spread the cost interest-free (0% APR) over 24 months or up to 10 years (11.9% APR) if you want to get those monthly payments right down.

The monthly repayments on your boiler finance plan will depend on the length of term finance you select, the boiler you choose, and the deposit amount you choose to pay.

Generally speaking, deposit amounts vary between 0-50%. The actual deposit amount you will pay will depend on the boiler model you choose to buy.

Alternatives to Vaillant boilers

Vaillant is a premium boiler brand. There are only a few boiler brands that can offer the same level of reliability, customer service, price, and quality.

The main alternative to Vaillant is Worcester Bosch. We’ve compared Worcester Bosch vs Vaillant in a previous article, to see the outcome of that mighty battle, head on over and check it out. We pitted the Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 835 against the Worcester Bosch Life 35kW, two like-for-like boilers with excellent specifications.

The only other premium brand that could be considered as an alternative to Vaillant would be Viessmann. With an impressive 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot, and a reputation for building reliable boilers on the whole; Viessmann sits just outside of Worcester Bosch and Vaillant’s level (opinion) because of a couple of reasons.

Firstly, Viessmann boilers are manufactured in Germany, which can occasionally mean that parts are more difficult to obtain, and we’re talking pre-Brexit; post-Brexit they will only be more difficult to obtain.

Secondly, there is a common problem that occurs with the diverter valve on two of Viessmann’s most popular boilers – the Vitodens 100-W and 200-W models. A diverter valve in your boiler helps switch between hot water and heating, and a new one can cost up to £350 to replace.

Having said that Viessmann boilers, on the whole, are very reliable, as you would expect from precision German engineering. They have also just released a newer model of the Vitodens 100w, which offers a few improvements on the old Vitodens and may even resolve the diverter valve issue.

If you’re looking for a more general guide to the best boilers to buy in 2023, then we have covered that too. We break it down into the best budget and premium combi, system, and regular boilers available.

*Average boiler prices were taken from an online heating supplier. It was updated on 9th Feb 2023. Prices are for the boiler alone and may be subject to change.
