MAIN BOILERS

Main Heating is owned by Baxi Heating, one of the big four in the U.K boiler market. Baxi is focused on sustainability and helping the U.K reach carbon emissions targets.

Baxi, in turn, is part of BDR Thermea Group, a world-leading manufacturer and distributor of smart thermal comfort solutions for domestic and commercial use.

Main Boilers

Main boilers are a part of Baxi boilers, which belong to parent company BDR Thermea Group (I know, confusing). BDR Thermea was formed in 2009 and the main headquarters are located in the Netherlands.

BDR Thermea Group employs more than 6,300 people and operates in more than 100 countries worldwide. BDR Thermea Group has 15 manufacturing sites worldwide and a network of 11 Centres of Excellence in seven countries across Europe working closely together to develop solutions to meet the sustainable, economic, and legislative requirements of the future.

From this, we can take that behind Main boilers there are strong foundations, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that Main boilers are any good. So let’s find out a bit more about Main boilers.

Main boilers don’t have a Trustpilot profile, which, for a company that has been going for 75 years is a bit odd (not that Trustpilot, or even the internet was around that long ago). Main has been reviewed on Which? however, and it comes with an uninspiring 48% review score.

Heating engineers like Main boilers because they are very simple to repair and service, and parts are easy to get hold of. Customers are less keen on Main boilers, giving them a 2 out of 5, much lower than many brand competitors.

Main boilers are pitched as a budget brand, a no-frills option for tradesmen, landlords, and customers looking to save some money. However, there are other brands that cost a little bit more that are more reliable, like the Worcester Bosch 2000 series or the Vokera Excel.

Main boilers tend to come with five years warranty, which is on the lower side of what you can expect on a boiler warranty but is fairly common in the budget boiler brand market.

Main has a very limited range of combi and system boilers with a limited choice of kW outputs.

If you aren’t sure what boiler type you have, check out our blog, it’s important to know your boiler type before getting any boiler quotes.

Once you know what boiler type you’re looking for, you can use the WarmZilla boiler comparison function below. Just select up to 3 boilers you want to compare and you’ll be able to compare key stats side by side to see which Intergas (or another boiler brand) is best for you.

You can also take the WarmZilla survey, by answering a few simple questions about your home we will be able to recommend suitable boilers for your heating and hot water requirements. You can get a quote on a new boiler in just a few minutes without adding any personal details.

WarmZilla does not sell Main boilers because there are much more reliable options available for a little bit more initial cost. Main boilers are also quite limited in the choice of kW options and the boiler models available. There is better value for money when buying a Worcester Bosch 2000 series or a Vokera Excel.

The main benefit to Main boilers is their price tag. They are one of the cheapest boilers on the market. The Main Eco Compact 30kW Natural Gas Combination Boiler costs £580 (without installation) from a plumbing merchant.

From the same plumbing merchant a Worcester Bosch 2000 (30kW) combi boiler costs £840. A £260 difference is quite a lot but you have to balance that over the lifespan of a boiler. £260 is the average cost of one repair and with a Main boiler, it’s a lot more likely to need a repair a lot sooner than the Worcester Bosch equivalent.

A WarmZilla boiler comes with the boiler, Gas Safe installation, system filter, system cleanse, inhibitor, wireless thermostat, up to 14 years guarantee, any flues or extension kits you may need; plus, if your condensate or gas pipes require upgrading – that’s included in your fixed price boiler quote too!

You can get a quote now on a new boiler with all the extras mentioned above, in a few minutes using the WarmZilla online survey.

In order to keep your warranty valid with your Main boiler, it is a requirement that your boiler is serviced annually. Failure to do so could not only invalidate your warranty but also lead to expensive repair bills on your boiler.

What will your Gas Safe engineer will check during your annual boiler service?

  • Correct gas pressure and flow
  • Your flue and combustion. A flue gas analyser will be used to make sure that your boiler is burning the right mixture of gas and air and that the flue is not blocked.
  • That the electrical connections are clean and in good condition.
  • Fan and other key components are working efficiently.
  • Seals are intact.
  • Electrodes are in a good condition.
  • Safety devices are checked.
  • That the condensate trap and pipe are not blocked.
  • Water and gas pipework.

Why should I have my Main boiler annually serviced?

Not only does having your boiler annually serviced give you peace of mind regarding gas safety in your home, but it also ensures maximum efficiency of your boiler, reduces gas consumption which will help with your energy costs and keeps your warranty valid.

During your annual service, the engineer should inform you if the boiler does not meet building and safety legislations and regulations. Your engineer should also explain any repairs or maintenance work that needs doing.

With an output of 15kW for central heating, this system boiler is ideal for homes with up to 10 radiators and a single bathroom. However, the benefit of installing a system boiler is that you can have hot water on demand. For larger-sized homes, check out the Main Eco Compact 18kW system gas boiler.

This is because system boilers are installed alongside a hot water storage cylinder, usually installed in an airing cupboard or similar sized space in your home. This hot water cylinder is fed with the heated water from the boiler unit and keeps it warm until needed. On the other hand, due to needing this additional hot water tank, system boilers are not ideal for homes with limited space, such as flats, which means if you live in a home with limited space, you might want to check out their combi boiler range; 25kW and 30kW

If space is limited in your home, the Main Eco Compact range is also available as a combi boiler.
