An annual boiler service can help you to avoid any issues that may arise when it comes to turning your central heating back on during the winter months.

A boiler is one of the most essential appliances in your home, which is why it’s important that it gets serviced regularly so that it remains efficient and safe to use in your home.

Your boiler service must be carried out by a qualified Gas Safe Engineer. They will look at the full list of boiler components and carry out the necessary tweaks, replacements, or cleaning needed.

The boiler checklist will include the following:

  • Checking the flue system inside and outside the boiler
  • Checking the boiler flame
  • Removing the boiler casing to ensure that the burner, heat exchanger and spark electrode are working correctly
  • Check the case seal is still effective
  • Check the water-level control, low-water cut-off and safety valves are all in good condition
  • Firing up the boiler to check for any possible faults
  • Check that the expansion vessel is regulating the boiler pressure correctly
  • Clean any necessary parts

Your installer should leave you with a comprehensive list of checks in the servicing and maintenance section of the installation manual.

Having an annual service not only keeps your boiler nice and healthy and extends its lifespan but also saves you money on unnecessary future repairs that may be needed.

On average, a boiler service costs between £70 and £120 depending on your provider. For a one-off cost, it is worth checking that your boiler is in good nick for the next 365 days.

The EcoFit Pure 412 is the least powerful boiler in its range, with an output of 12.3kW. However, don’t let this put you off, as this boiler is still powerful enough to heat a small home with up to 10 radiators. If you feel that your home has a higher demand for both central heating and hot water, then Vaillant has designed the EcoFit Pure 415, 418, 425, 430 and 435 which have outputs between 15.2kW and 34.8kW, so there is an option for everyone.

It is important to note that regular boilers require an additional cold water storage tank, which is usually installed in the attic of a property, and also a hot water cylinder, and therefore are not recommended for small homes with limited space.  As a result of these ratings, the EcoFit Pure range could potentially help you to save on energy costs and also lower your carbon footprint.

The EcoFit Pure 415 is one of the less powerful boilers in the range, with an output of 15.2kW for domestic hot water. If you feel your home does not require this output for heating and hot water, the EcoFit Pure 412 is also available.

Out of the six boiler models in the EcoFit Pure range, the 418 sits in the middle of the range when it comes to energy output. The 418 has an output of 18.3kW, perfect for homes with one main bathroom and up to 15 radiators. If you feel that your home has a higher demand for heating and hot water, Vaillant has designed the 425, 430, and also the EcoFitPure 435, with outputs of between 25.4kW and 34.8kW. If your home doesn’t require an output of 18.3kW, the EcoFit Pure 412 and 415 are also available.

It is important to note when considering purchasing a new or replacement regular gas boiler, that you will need to accommodate for an additional cold water storage tank, typically installed in the attic of a property, and a hot water cylinder, usually fitted in an airing cupboard. For this reason, regular boilers are not recommended for smaller homes with limited space or flats.
