Having too much power in your heating system isn’t good and can lead to higher bills. If your boiler is too big, it might create more heat than your system can use, causing it to work poorly.
When your boiler isn’t heating or providing hot water, it turns off. This means the water cools down. When you need it again, a big boiler will use more energy to heat the same amount of water that your home needs compared to a properly sized boiler. Our survey ensures you get the exact boiler you need.
A kilowatt (kW) is just a way to measure power, and 1 kilowatt equals 1,000 watts. When it comes to boilers, you’ll often see numbers like 12kW, 18kW, or even 32kW and 40kW—these tell you how much power the boiler can produce in a second.
The larger your home, the more powerful a boiler you’ll need. This is important because a more powerful boiler can deliver hot water to multiple taps or showers at the same time, plus provide more heat to a greater amount of radiators.

A system boiler has a separate hot water storage cylinder but doesn’t require a cold water storage tank.
Regular boilers have a hot water tank (usually in an airing cupboard) and a cold water tank (usually in the loft).
This will look like an exhaust pipe which could either be out of your wall or your roof.
